SCARB2还与肝细胞癌(HCC)的发生发展有关。研究发现,SCARB2基因的缺失可以抑制HCC细胞的癌干细胞特性,从而抑制HCC的发生和发展[1]。SCARB2基因的缺失还可以通过干扰HDCA3介导的MYC去乙酰化,增强MYC的转录活性,从而促进HCC的发生和发展。

SCARB2还与肠道菌群失衡有关。研究发现,SCARB2基因的缺失会导致肠道菌群失衡,从而引起肠道功能障碍[3]。肠道菌群失衡会导致肠道内胆汁酸池的改变,进而引起肠道FXR的过度激活,从而抑制肠道上皮细胞的更新和脂质吸收。

SCARB2还与手足口病的发生发展有关。研究发现,SCARB2基因的某些多态性与EV71感染引起的手足口病的严重程度有关[2,7]。SCARB2基因的突变可能降低EV71感染引起的手足口病的严重程度。
