RTP4在炎症反应中也发挥重要作用。研究发现,RTP4能够抑制I型干扰素(IFN-I)反应,从而加剧实验性脑疟疾和神经病理学。RTP4通过结合TBK1复合物并抑制TBK1信号通路,从而抑制IFN-I反应[7]。此外,RTP4还能够增强实验性过敏性哮喘的炎症反应。RTP4的表达水平与过敏性哮喘的炎症细胞和细胞因子水平相关[5]。

RTP4在糖尿病中发挥重要作用。研究发现,RTP4在糖尿病性单纯疱疹病毒1型感染中表达上调,并促进HSV-1与角膜上皮细胞的结合,从而加剧糖尿病性HSV-1感染。沉默RTP4可以缓解糖尿病性HSV-1感染[8]。
