KLK7的表达受到表观遗传调控。研究发现,组蛋白去乙酰化酶(HDAC)抑制剂和组蛋白乙酰转移酶(HAT)抑制剂可以显著上调KLK7的表达。进一步研究发现,KLK7启动子区域的组蛋白乙酰化和Sp1转录因子结合位点的富集与KLK7的表达上调密切相关[4]。此外,KLK7的表达还受到EGR-1转录因子的调控。IL-13刺激可以诱导EGR-1与KLK7启动子区域的EGR-1结合序列(EBS)结合,进而激活KLK7的转录[9]。

除了在人类中发挥作用,KLK7在动物模型和家畜中也具有重要功能。研究发现,KLK7基因与猪的产仔数性状相关,KLK7基因多态性位点与产仔数显著相关[3]。此外,KLK7还与羊角的生长有关,KLK7在羊角和皮肤组织中高表达,且KLK7的表达与羊角的长度呈负相关,提示KLK7可能抑制羊角的生长[8]。
